Joining a network directory

Macintosh computers can joing (bind) to an OS X Open Directory or Windows Active Directory for authentication. This can be useful for single sign-on with network accounts.

  1. Click the Apple menu and choose System Preferences. Choose Users & Groups.
  2. Click the lock to authenticate as a local admin user.
  3. Choose Login Options. Click Join… or Edit….
  4. Click the arrow to choose a directory server or type the address in the box. Click OK.
  5. If asked, you may choose to trust the server if you know it to be trustworthy. 
  6. Close the Users & Groups window.
