AirPlay on Apple TV

Apple TV lets you use your TV as a second display. With AirPlay Mirroring, you can stream the Mac desktop and whatever application is on screen to an HDTV wirelessly through the Apple TV. Or use Apple TV with an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, making it easier than ever to watch videos, photos or give presentations – whether it's in the living room or the board room.

AirPlay requires an Apple TV 2 or later with iOS 5.1 or later. To mirror a computer display you’ll need a Mac from mid-2011 or later and OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion (2012) or later.

Before you use your Apple TV, make sure it’s plugged into an HDTV with an HDMI cable. The TV must be turned on and set to the correct input for Apple TV. Apple TV, Macs and iOS devices must be on the same wi-fi or wired network.

Using AirPlay Mirroring with a Mac

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu. Click Displays and the Display tab.
  2. To turn on mirroring now, choose an Apple TV from the AirPlay Mirroring menu.
  3. To make AirPlay easier next time, check the box to Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available. Then close the window.
  4. From now on simply select an Apple TV from the AirPlay menu in the menu bar. Return to this menu to turn it off.

Using AirPlay with iTunes
